Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and making comparisons between the perceived and actual likelihood of crime. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you correctly identify that perceived danger is higher than actual danger, the description of the data is occasionally imprecise (e.g., 'around 12 or 13%'). To reach a higher band, you should aim to be more specific with the data points provided in the graph and ensure the comparison between the two years is more analytical rather than just listing figures. The overview is clear, but the supporting details could be better structured to highlight the most significant trends more effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is generally clear, and the use of paragraphing is appropriate. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'For 2009/2010', 'For burglary', 'For car crimes'). There is a lack of variety in linking words, which makes the flow feel a bit stilted. Improving the range of transition signals and ensuring that referencing is more varied would help the text flow more naturally and improve the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'perceived danger', 'actual likelihood', and 'victim of crime'. However, the vocabulary is somewhat repetitive, and there is a lack of more sophisticated or precise lexical items. For instance, phrases like 'got decreased' are grammatically awkward and stylistically weak. To improve, try to incorporate more varied verbs for describing trends, such as 'declined', 'plummeted', or 'remained stable', and avoid informal phrasing. The spelling is accurate throughout, which is a positive aspect of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'the trend for perceived danger in all of three crimes... are higher' (subject-verb agreement) and 'the perceived danger got decreased' (awkward passive construction). Additionally, there are minor issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and more natural verb tenses would significantly improve your accuracy.
