Perceived and actual likelihood of being a victim of crime: by crime type
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The bar chart compares the percentage of three categories of crime type to a potential and actual risk of being a victim of crime.
Overall, it is evidence that percentage of crime type to be perceived 2009/10 had the largest across all risk why actual 2009/10 and actual 2010/11 remained the least.
Regarding burglary and car crime, burglary had roughly 16% in perceved 2009/10, followed by perceived 2010/11 around 13% and actual 2009/10 and actally 2010/11 at approximate value of 2% and 3% respectively. However, car crime had above 20% in perceived 2009/10, followed by roughly 17% among percieved 2010/11 and actual 2009/10 and 2010/11 at similar value just below 5%.
Turning to voilet crime, perceived 2009/10 stood at 15%, followed by perceived 2009/10 at rougly 13% and actual 2009/10 and actual 2010/11 reported identical value at roughly 2%.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have identified the main features of the graph and provided some comparisons, the analysis is somewhat superficial. You have grouped the data points, but the lack of sufficient length prevents a full development of the trends. Additionally, there are inaccuracies in the data reporting, such as the repetition of 'perceived 2009/10' in the final paragraph instead of distinguishing between the years. To improve, ensure you provide a more detailed overview and double-check your data points against the graph to ensure accuracy.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'Regarding' and 'Turning to' are used correctly to signal transitions, but the internal flow within paragraphs is hindered by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the final paragraph where the same year is cited twice, creating confusion. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your references to the data are precise and consistent throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. You rely on basic descriptors and repeat terms like 'perceived' and 'actual' frequently. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'voilet' instead of 'violent', 'percieved' instead of 'perceived', and 'actally' instead of 'actually'. These errors, while not always impeding communication, demonstrate a lack of control over spelling and word choice. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'percentage' or 'value' and pay closer attention to the spelling of technical terms related to the graph.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that detract from the overall quality. Issues include missing articles ('the percentage'), incorrect verb forms ('it is evidence that'), and subject-verb agreement errors. Some sentences are poorly constructed, such as 'had the largest across all risk', which lacks clarity. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors suggests a lack of control over complex sentence forms. To improve, focus on basic sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles before nouns.
