Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear overview or effectively compare the two distinct data sets (perceived vs. actual). The reporting of data is often inaccurate or confusing, such as stating 'the crime of car was being 21% for perceived and decreased by 17% in 2011', which is mathematically unclear. Furthermore, the response lacks a cohesive summary of the main trends. The distinction between perceived danger and actual likelihood is not highlighted, which is a key requirement for this task. The data points are presented in a fragmented manner, making it difficult for the reader to grasp the overall message of the graph.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes misused, such as 'to be concluded' which is not a standard way to end a Task 1 report. Referencing is often unclear, and the transition between ideas is abrupt. The structure lacks a clear introduction that paraphrases the prompt effectively, and the body paragraphs do not group information logically by category or trend, leading to a disjointed reading experience.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'the crime of car' instead of 'car crime' or 'vehicle-related crime'. The student relies on basic phrasing to describe trends, such as 'rose up to' or 'decreased by', which are often used incorrectly in context. There is little evidence of a range of vocabulary suitable for describing data, and the errors occasionally make the intended meaning ambiguous.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, and sentence structure. For example, 'the bar graph shows the information of different types of crime happened in 2009 to 2011' is grammatically awkward. There are also errors in punctuation and capitalization. While the student attempts some complex structures, they are often faulty, leading to a lack of clarity. The majority of sentences contain errors, which hinders the overall flow of the report.
