Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the task by identifying the main features of the graph, such as the disparity between perceived and actual crime rates. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you mention car crime and burglary, the data points are often imprecise or missing (e.g., 'over a fifth' is vague when the graph provides specific percentages). The comparison between perceived and actual crime is present, but the lack of specific data points for all categories limits the development of the response. To improve, ensure you include precise figures for all key trends mentioned to support your summary effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For instance, the transition 'in the term of violent crime' is awkward and lacks a smooth connection to the previous paragraph. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Furthermore' and 'In contrast', the logical progression is sometimes interrupted by unclear phrasing. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision required for a higher band. You rely on basic descriptors like 'least proportion' and 'minor number'. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'cursory from the glance of the graph' and 'in the term of', which are not natural English expressions. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more academic vocabulary and precise collocations related to data description, such as 'a significant discrepancy' or 'a marginal figure'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'most of the people faces car crime' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'actual likelihood of being victim of car crime ratio was only 4%' (awkward syntax). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing capital letters at the start of sentences and incorrect comma usage. Focusing on basic grammatical accuracy, particularly subject-verb agreement and sentence structure, will significantly improve your score.
