Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the graph but fails to provide a clear overview of the main trends. While it identifies some data points, the analysis is superficial and contains inaccuracies regarding the data (e.g., misinterpreting the years and percentages). The response lacks a clear comparison between the categories and fails to highlight the significant gap between perceived and actual danger across all crime types. The conclusion is overly simplistic and does not synthesize the information effectively. To improve, you must focus on identifying the most significant features and ensuring the data cited is accurate according to the provided graph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and often mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'in the year'. There is a lack of logical flow between sentences, making the comparison of data difficult to follow. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between the introduction, body, and conclusion is abrupt. To achieve a higher band, you should use a wider range of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear central topic that develops the overall argument or summary.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits the precision of your report. There are several spelling errors (e.g., 'preceived', 'incresing') and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'highest on all topic'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends or data points with the necessary academic tone. You rely on simple descriptors and struggle to use collocations effectively. To improve, focus on learning specific vocabulary for describing data, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'a significant disparity', and 'proportion'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('crimes are incresing', 'crime is crime'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence structures. The range of grammatical structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with some errors in complex attempts. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles or incorrect word forms.
