Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the graph, including the comparison between perceived and actual crime rates. You successfully identified the trends for the three crime types over the two periods. However, the analysis is slightly hampered by inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, you mention car crime was 'around 4%' in 2009/10, but the graph shows it closer to 20%. Additionally, the overview is quite brief and lacks a clear synthesis of the overall trend. To improve, ensure that data points are transcribed more accurately from the visual and provide a more comprehensive summary of the main differences between perception and reality.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs for each year, and a concluding summary. Cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'As compared to this', and 'Despite these' are used to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally disrupted by minor mechanical errors, such as the lowercase 'in' at the start of the second paragraph and the capitalization error in 'The' within the third paragraph. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the transition between the body paragraphs and the conclusion could be smoother to enhance the overall coherence of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'perceived danger', 'actual likelihood', and 'dramatically lower'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'portrays of the probably danger' (should be 'portrays the perceived danger') and 'aspected crime' (likely meant 'expected crime' or 'perceived crime'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more accurate collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('car crime had greatly affected by perception') and incorrect preposition usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and capitalization at the start of sentences. While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to keep the score in the mid-range. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and sentence-level mechanics will significantly improve your accuracy.
