Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. The content is severely underdeveloped; it only touches upon a few data points and fails to provide a comprehensive summary or meaningful comparisons across the different crime types. The overview is vague and lacks the necessary detail to accurately represent the graph's information. To improve, you must ensure you describe all key features, including the differences between perceived and actual likelihood for each category, and provide a more thorough analysis to meet the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response lacks a logical structure and clear paragraphing. The use of cohesive devices is minimal and often awkward, such as the abrupt transition 'also' at the end of the text. The ideas are not sequenced effectively, making the response difficult to follow. To improve, you should organize your report into a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group related data points together. Use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'in contrast', 'furthermore', 'whereas') to connect your sentences and ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic phrasing like 'maximum crime' and 'estimated'. There is a lack of precision in describing the data, and the word choice is often unnatural or inaccurate in an academic context. For example, 'having a myopic look' is an inappropriate idiom for a formal report. To achieve a higher band, you need to use a more varied range of vocabulary, including specific terms for describing trends and statistical data, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', 'significantly higher', and 'discrepancy'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with sentence structure, punctuation, and article usage. Many sentences are fragmented or poorly constructed, such as 'the maximum crime is perceived by car crime'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the existing simple sentences often contain errors that impede clarity. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and incorporating a variety of complex structures, such as subordinate clauses, to demonstrate better control over your writing.
