Perceived and actual likelihood of being a victim of crime: by crime type
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The bar graph compares the proportion of the sensed danger and actual occurrence of being a victim of crime.
Overall, the car crime was the highest perceived danger as well as happened in actual throughout the timeline. On the other hand, Burglary and violent crimes followed almost same pattern in perceived crimes through the whole period, While burglary happened least in real.
Almost 22% car crimes were sensed in 2009 to 2010, oppositely only about 15% crimes detected were burglary and violent crimes. Similarly in 2010 to 2011, car crime still was the peaked danger perceived, about 17%. Other two were 12% in that period.
About 4% of car crimes actually occurred in between 2009 to 2010, while only 2.5% violent crimes took place in reality, followed by 2% burglary.
In addition, from 2010 to 2011, same ratio of car crimes happened as of previous year. Moreover violent crimes and burglary were slightly higher than last year.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying the trends for car crime, burglary, and violent crime. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you mention the highest and lowest figures, the comparison between 'perceived danger' and 'actual likelihood' is not fully developed. The data interpretation is occasionally imprecise, such as stating 'car crime still was the peaked danger' without clearly contrasting it against the actual figures in a way that highlights the significant gap between perception and reality. To improve, ensure you explicitly contrast the perceived percentages with the actual percentages for each category to provide a more comprehensive overview of the data provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific time periods. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical. Phrases like 'oppositely' and 'other two were' are slightly awkward and do not effectively link the ideas. The use of cohesive devices is present but lacks sophistication. For instance, the transition between the 2009-2010 data and the 2010-2011 data could be smoother to better guide the reader through the chronological progression. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'the latter') is used more accurately would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. You rely on repetitive phrasing such as 'crimes' and 'happened'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'sensed danger' (better: 'perceived risk') and 'peaked danger' (better: 'highest perceived risk'). While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little evidence of less common lexical items or sophisticated collocations. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise terminology related to statistics and trends, such as 'proportion', 'incidence', 'discrepancy', or 'fluctuated'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that affect the clarity of the writing. For example, 'the car crime was the highest perceived danger as well as happened in actual' is grammatically incorrect; it should be 'car crime was perceived as the greatest danger and also had the highest actual incidence'. Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases, such as 'in between 2009 to 2010'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage.
