Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, but the presentation of data is often confusing and lacks precision. While you identify the three crime types, the comparisons are hindered by awkward phrasing and unclear data reporting. For instance, stating 'car crime is more happened' does not accurately describe the trends. You have attempted to report figures for both years, but the lack of clear structure makes it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between perceived and actual likelihood. To improve, ensure you group data logically—perhaps by crime type or by comparing the two years—and use more precise terminology to describe the trends shown in the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and often mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'in the given years'. The transition between sentences is weak, making the progression of information feel somewhat fragmented. For example, the jump between describing car crime and burglary lacks a clear linking phrase. To reach a higher band, you should use a wider range of cohesive devices (e.g., 'conversely', 'in contrast', 'meanwhile') to connect your ideas more fluidly and improve the overall logical progression of your report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'happened', 'sufferer', and 'wrong doing'. There are several instances of unnatural word choices, such as 'being true prey of the offense' and 'sensed offense', which do not align with standard academic English. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information with the necessary precision required for an Academic Task 1 report. You should focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to data description, such as 'the proportion of', 'a significant discrepancy', or 'the actual incidence of crime'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'car crime is more happened', 'violent crime has similarity with burglary with both have', and 'the perceived of sufferer'. These errors involve subject-verb agreement, word order, and sentence structure. While you attempt some complex sentence structures, they are often faulty, leading to confusion. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that your subjects and verbs agree. Reducing the number of errors in simple sentences will significantly improve the readability of your work.
