Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and making relevant comparisons between perceived and actual crime rates. You successfully highlighted the key trend that fear of crime consistently outweighs reality. However, the report could be improved by providing more precise data points for all categories. For instance, while you mentioned car crime figures, the burglary and violent crime data could be more clearly contrasted. The overview is clear and effectively summarizes the main trends, which is essential for a high band score. To improve, ensure all data points are transcribed accurately to avoid minor inaccuracies in reporting.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Similarly', and 'Meanwhile' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by mechanical errors and some awkward phrasing. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs could be smoother. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that referencing is consistently clear throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'victimization rates', 'significant threat', and 'consistently low'. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'illsutrate', 'precived', 'likehood', 'catagories', 'varid', and 'dramitically'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the message. To improve, you should focus on proofreading your work to eliminate these basic spelling mistakes and try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms to describe trends.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are frequent errors in punctuation, subject-verb agreement, and article usage (e.g., 'fear of crime for outweight', 'fell into 17.5%', 'bith periods'). Some sentences are slightly disjointed due to missing spaces after punctuation. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to limit the score. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that your punctuation is consistent and accurate.
