Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you attempt to summarize the graph, the information provided is often unclear or inaccurate. For example, you mention '4 different years' and '3 years' inconsistently, and the data interpretation is confusing, making it difficult for the reader to follow the trends. You have not clearly identified the main features or made effective comparisons between the perceived danger and actual likelihood. To improve, ensure you clearly state the trends for each category and provide accurate data points from the graph. The under-length penalty is applied here as the response is 144 words.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a logical flow. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the progression of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'To compare other' and 'Therefore', which do not logically connect the preceding and following sentences. The referencing is also unclear, particularly when discussing the crime types and years. To improve, focus on using transition words that accurately reflect the relationship between ideas, such as 'in contrast,' 'similarly,' or 'whereas,' and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. You use basic terms like 'highest' and 'crime' frequently without demonstrating a range of synonyms or more precise academic language. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'most highest figures were acquire' and 'actual remains similar,' which are grammatically and lexically awkward. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more varied vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion,' 'fluctuation,' 'significant,' or 'marginal,' and ensure that words are used in their correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('the graph represent'), article usage ('the the graph'), and sentence structure ('violent and burglary were merely same'). Many sentences are fragmented or lack the necessary complexity to demonstrate a good range of grammatical structures. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb. Additionally, practice using complex sentences with subordinate clauses to improve your range, while proofreading carefully to eliminate basic errors in tense and pluralization.
