Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, including the categories and the two time periods. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you identify that car crime has the highest perceived and actual likelihood, the comparison between burglary and violent crime is vague, using phrases like 'neck to neck' and 'mostly 16%'. The data reporting lacks precision in places, and the distinction between perceived and actual figures could be more clearly contrasted to better highlight the gap between public perception and reality. To improve, ensure you provide more specific data points and a more analytical comparison of the trends across the two years.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'Firstly', and 'Secondly' to signal the progression of your ideas. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the comparison between burglary and violent crime lacks sufficient detail to be fully coherent. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one will help elevate your score in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey the main information. You use topic-specific terms like 'proportion', 'perceived danger', and 'actual likelihood'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'greater number of percentage' and 'violent crime has greater crimes'. These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated vocabulary and ensuring that your word choices are contextually accurate and natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'being victim' (should be 'being a victim'), 'in crimes category' (should be 'in crime categories'), and 'with mostly 16%' (which is grammatically incomplete). These errors occur frequently but do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed accurately without missing prepositions or auxiliary verbs.
