Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the task by identifying the main features of the graph, such as the high perceived danger of car crime compared to actual likelihood. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. The student mentions specific percentages for 2009-10 but fails to provide sufficient data points for 2010-11, relying on vague descriptions like 'similar as a 2009'. The comparison between perceived and actual crime is noted, but the lack of precise data for all categories limits the development of the response. To reach a higher band, ensure that key figures are clearly stated for all categories mentioned.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'Moving toward the remaining information' and 'Overall; it is clear'. The punctuation is inconsistent, particularly the misuse of semicolons instead of commas or full stops. While there is a logical progression from the overview to the specific years, the flow is occasionally disrupted by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures, which hinders the overall coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and contains several errors in word choice and collocation. For instance, 'adaption of danger' and 'actual livelihood' are incorrect terms for describing the data provided. The student relies on basic vocabulary, such as 'highest percentage' and 'lowest percentage', which is repetitive. There is little attempt to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends or comparisons effectively. To improve, the student should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to data analysis and crime statistics.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response uses a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentences, but grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes impede clarity. Examples include 'car crimes have highest perceived danger' (missing articles), 'less then 5 proportion' (incorrect preposition and word choice), and 'similar as a 2009' (grammatical error). Punctuation is also problematic, with semicolons used incorrectly throughout the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence structure prevents a higher score.
