Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the graph, including the perceived and actual crime rates. However, the analysis is somewhat hindered by unclear phrasing, such as 'observed trouble' and 'sufferer of offence', which makes the comparison of data points difficult to follow. While you have identified the key trends, the reporting of figures is occasionally imprecise or confusing, particularly when comparing the two years. To improve, ensure that you clearly distinguish between the 'perceived' and 'actual' categories throughout the report and use more precise terminology to describe the data trends, such as 'a significant decline' or 'remained relatively stable'.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the flow of ideas is often interrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For example, 'In the circumstances like burglary' and 'As a whole' are used in ways that do not always logically connect the sentences. The use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and occasionally inaccurate, which affects the overall progression of the argument. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that transitions smoothly into the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is often unnatural or imprecise for an academic report. Phrases like 'observed trouble' instead of 'perceived danger' and 'sufferer of offence' instead of 'victim of crime' indicate a limited grasp of appropriate collocations. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, the errors in word choice are frequent and sometimes impede the clarity of the information being presented. To improve, focus on learning the standard terminology used in data description tasks and practice using these terms in their correct context to ensure precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. Issues include incorrect verb forms ('chances of crime to be happened'), subject-verb agreement errors ('rate of actual crime were exceeded'), and awkward sentence construction. While the meaning is generally understandable, these persistent errors prevent the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with verb tenses and pluralisation, and work on constructing more complex sentences that are grammatically sound.
