Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Perceived and actual likelihood of being a victim of crime: by crime type
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The graph gives infromation on the estimated and recorded risks that lead to victim for three different types crime, namely burglary, car crime and violent crime between 2009 and 2011.
It can be clearly seen that actual crimes by far recorded the highest proportion in comparison to the perceived victims. among the three categories, car crime is in both actual and estimated dominated types of victim, the years 2009/2010 experienced a vast majority of the crimes across all categories.
Burglary in the perceived danger witnessed the vast majority to above 15% of the crimes in the first two years, while this number slighlty decreased to roughly 13%. actual dangers in both years stayed below to fifth. conversarly, car crime in 2009/10 registered approximately 22% with a marginal decline in the following year. the actual crime is identical in both years to under 5%.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The student attempts to summarise the main features of the chart comparing perceived danger and actual likelihood of crime. However, there are notable misinterpretations of the data, such as claiming that 'actual crimes by far recorded the highest proportion in comparison to the perceived victims', which directly contradicts the visual data showing that perceived crime rates were significantly higher than actual crime rates across all categories. Furthermore, the response is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence at the end ('viole'), and fails to meet the 150-word minimum requirement, containing only 144 words. This negatively impacts the overall task completion and development of ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text is organized into paragraphs with an introductory sentence and some attempts at body paragraphs. However, logical progression is hindered by contradictory statements and poor referencing, such as 'actual crimes by far recorded the highest proportion'. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately (e.g., 'conversarly'). Paragraphing is initiated, but the abrupt ending due to the incomplete response disrupts the overall flow and structural integrity of the essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is somewhat limited and repetitive, with several lexical errors and awkward collocations (e.g., 'estimated and recorded risks that lead to victim', 'dominated types of victim'). There are also spelling mistakes ('infromation', 'slighlty', 'conversarly'). While the student attempts less common vocabulary such as 'proportions', 'category', and 'marginal decline', inaccurate word choices occasionally impede smooth reading.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('car crime is... dominated types') and prepositions ('stayed below to fifth'). Punctuation and capitalization at the beginning of sentences (e.g., 'It can be clearly seen', 'viole') show lapses. Because the response is unfinished, the grammatical range is severely restricted.
