Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to cover the main features of the chart comparing perceived and actual likelihood of crime in 2009/10 and 2010/11. However, the introduction is weak, copying fragments of the prompt incorrectly ('The graph ilustrate that the perceived danger...'), and the overview is confused and lacks clarity. While the writer reports some specific figures for burglary, car crime, and violent crime across both years, there are inconsistencies in data reporting (for instance, stating car crime in 2009/10 perceived was 21% while citing slightly altered approximate figures elsewhere). The response addresses parts of the task but lacks a fully developed overview and consistent precision. This falls under Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text is organized into brief paragraphs, including an introduction, an overview, and individual body paragraphs for each crime type. However, the logical progression is hindered by frequent structural and mechanical errors. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes awkward, such as 'Firsty', 'Secondly', and 'Thirdly', which are misspelled and awkwardly punctuated. Paragraphing is attempted, but sentences often feel disjointed and lack smooth transitions. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making the overall flow quite mechanical and hesitant. This performance aligns with Band 5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, heavily relying on words directly taken from the prompt such as 'perceived', 'actual', 'likelihood', and 'crime'. There are numerous spelling mistakes throughout the text, including 'ilustrate', 'fetures', 'comarisions', 'relevent', 'higest', 'victime', 'percived', and 'Firsty'. The range of vocabulary is restricted, and attempts at less common words result in noticeable errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. This corresponds to a Band 4.5, rounded to a stable Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at more complex structures are consistently flawed, leading to severe grammatical errors and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'The graph ilustrate that the perceived danger and actual likelihood of being a victim of crime' lacks a main predicate; 'Burglary and Violent crime both are same perceived'). Punctuation and capitalization are frequently mishandled, with missing spaces after periods and random capitalizations (e.g., 'Overall,The higest', 'Firsty, crime type'). Errors are frequent across sentences and impede readability, fitting the Band 4 descriptors.
