Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student attempts to cover the main features of the chart, including the categories of burglary, car crime, and violent crime for the years 2009/10 and 2010/11. An overview is attempted in the second paragraph, pointing out that car crime had the highest perceived and actual figures. However, the task achievement is constrained by numerous inaccuracies in reporting data values and unclear comparisons. For instance, the student states that actual car crime victims were about 4.75%, whereas the chart shows around 4.5%. Additionally, some parts of the response are difficult to follow due to confusing expressions such as "majority people were perceived in Car crimes." While the prompt is addressed, the development of ideas lacks precision and clarity, aligning best with a band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is divided into paragraphs, attempting an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs detailing the data. However, the overall progression is heavily disrupted by awkward transitions, repetitive phrasing, and mechanical cohesive devices such as "After this onwards" and "In last Violent crimes." Paragraphing is somewhat arbitrary, separating perceived data and actual data into distinct, yet repetitive, structural blocks rather than grouping them logically by crime type or overall trends. Referencing and logical flow are frequently faulty, making it hard for the reader to follow the argument smoothly. This level of cohesion and structural control reflects a band 5.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently reusing terms like "perceived," "actual," "proportion," and "crimes" throughout the text. There are also noticeable lexical errors and inappropriate word choices, such as "majority people were perceived in Car crimes" and "ever crimes" instead of "every crime." Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success and inaccurate collocation. While the reader can generally grasp the intended meaning, the restricted range and frequent lexical inaccuracies mean the response fits the band 5 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but many complex structures are faulty or awkwardly constructed, such as "Whereas comparison of actual victims was also resulted more in Car crimes in each year from 2009 to 2011." Frequent grammatical errors are present, including issues with passive voice ("was also resulted"), preposition misuse, and missing articles. These errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and impede smooth communication at times. The control of grammar is limited, making a band 5 the most appropriate score.
