Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the task by mentioning the three crime types and comparing perceived and actual likelihoods for the years 2009/10 and 2010/11. However, the data reporting is frequently imprecise, overly repetitive, and confused (e.g., stating 'All three crime remain less than 5 percent', which overlooks that perceived crime was around 13-21 percent). While there is an attempt to report main features, key comparisons between years are underdeveloped, and data points are misstated or generalized inaccurately. This places the response firmly at Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The organization of the text is very basic and lacks a clear overall structure. Instead of forming coherent paragraphs with a clear overview and logical grouping, the text consists of disjointed sentences listing individual data points haphazardly. Cohesive devices are minimal and repetitive, and referencing is often unclear (e.g., 'the burglary crime perceived crime'). There is no effective paragraphing to guide the reader through the main features and comparisons, resulting in a choppy and disjointed progression. This corresponds to Band 4.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic, highly repetitive, and limited to terms directly lifted from the prompt, such as 'crime', 'perceived', 'actual', and 'burglary'. There are frequent word choice and lexical errors, such as 'three type of crimes' and 'the crime precived is above 15 percent'. The writer struggles to use less common vocabulary or varied synonyms, making the expression restricted and mechanical. Meaning is sometimes strained due to poor collocation and word formation. This meets the criteria for Band 4.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The text displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple, repetitive declarative patterns ('In this graph there are...', 'Car crime in 2009 to 2010 preceived is...'). Attempts at complex structures are absent, and grammatical accuracy is poor throughout. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'All three crime remain'), tense usage (e.g., 'the burglary crime is increase'), and prepositions (e.g., 'in 2009 to 2010' instead of 'from 2009 to 2010'). Punctuation is also erratic. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader, placing the grammar at Band 4.
