Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the task by giving an overview and mentioning various figures from the bar chart regarding perceived and actual crime likelihood. However, the selection and presentation of data are confused and lack clarity. For instance, the statement 'actual likelihood... in 2009/10 which is constituted between the range of 0-5' is imprecise and awkward. Furthermore, some comparisons are incomplete or unclear, such as 'type of crime of a burglary proportion remain same as violent crime'. While the main features (car crime being the highest perceived, burglary being the lowest actual) are touched upon, the overall development suffers from imprecise referencing of the data provided in the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is organised into four paragraphs, including an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and confusing cohesive devices, such as 'Additionally' or 'Furthermore' used incorrectly. For example, 'Adding more, actual 2010/11 car crime consist proportion below 5' demonstrates poor sentence-to-sentence cohesion. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within sentences often breaks down, making the flow difficult to follow for the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, with frequent word-choice errors and non-standard collocations. Examples include 'burglar crime made up of least proportion' and 'the percentye of a perceived 2009/10 violent crime'. The student attempts to use some task-related terms like 'proportion', 'perceived', and 'likelihood', but struggles with accurate collocation and grammatical forms (e.g., 'percentye' is a spelling error, 'consist proportion' is grammatically incorrect). The lexical range is minimally adequate for the task, but frequent inaccuracies place a heavy burden on the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Grammatical control is weak throughout the response, featuring a very limited range of structures and frequent intrusive errors. Many sentences are grammatically incomplete or incorrectly structured, such as 'The graph constituted perceived car crime accounted for largest proportion' and 'actual likelihood of being a victim of crime by type of a violent crime in 2009/10 which is constituted between the range of 0-5'. Articles, prepositions, and verb forms are frequently misused (e.g., 'remain same', 'consist proportion'). Simple sentences often contain errors, and attempts at more complex structures fail, frequently impeding communication.
