IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The graph below shows the perceived danger and actual likelihood of being a victim of crime.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Perceived and actual likelihood of being a victim of crime: by crime type
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The perception we made in our mind and the reality we are living are seperate and have a major gap in how people perceived things and what actually happened in the below dsicussion we are having a view on victims of crime with different crime type.
if we have a view on burglary the between 2009/10 the perceived rate is high as compared to in 2010/11 but the acutal crime rate among the year remains almost the same but a little higher in the next period and the perception rate goes below from the previous.
another example is of car crime that has a hugh perseived rate in prevous year and with the time pas by the perception is little lower than before but the actual crime rate remains the same in the both period that indicates wheter people think more of something to happen or not it'll happen beyond their thinking
violent crime also remains the same in the both years.
with the time pass by the people think about a crime is lesser then they think of it before but the crime rate remains the same

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the task by discussing the data on perceived and actual crime rates for burglary, car crime, and violent crime. However, the coverage is partial and lacks precise data reporting, relying instead on vague generalisations such as "the actual crime rate among the year remains almost the same." While an overview is attempted near the end, the lack of structured selection and clear comparison of the main features means the response fails to fully meet higher expectations. The ideas remain limited and under-developed, keeping the task achievement at the current level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, but it lacks clear overall progression and logical paragraphing. The text is written as one continuous block of text with run-on sentences and inadequate punctuation. Cohesive devices are either missing or repetitive, such as the frequent repetition of phrase structures like "with the time pass by." Referencing is also confusing at times, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of information smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. There are several noticeable errors in word choice, form, and spelling, such as writing "seperate" instead of separate, "dsicussion" instead of discussion, "acutal" instead of actual, and "perseived" instead of perceived. The student also misuses terms like "perception rate" and uses informal expressions like "hughe perseived rate" and "with the time pass by," which restricts precision and causes some difficulty for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of poorly controlled complex sentence attempts that lack proper punctuation boundaries. There are frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and clause structures, such as "The perception we made in our mind... are seperate" and "if we have a view on burglary the between 2009/10 the perceived rate is high." Run-on sentences without full stops or commas cause frequent comprehension difficulties for the reader throughout the text.
