Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task only minimally, failing to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words by falling slightly short at 142 words. While the candidate attempts to outline the main features of the graph regarding perceived and actual crime rates for burglary, car crime, and violent crime across the specified years, the information is presented in a very fragmented and rudimentary way. The overview at the end correctly identifies the core trend that perceived cases are greater than actual cases across all categories, but the overall development of ideas is limited and lacks adequate support and clear selection of key data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The information and ideas are not arranged coherently. The entire response is structured as a single block paragraph without appropriate paragraphing. Furthermore, cohesive devices are minimal, inadequate, and repetitive, with over-reliance on basic phrasal transitions like 'in the next year' and 'in last graph'. There is a lack of clear logical progression throughout the text, and referencing between sentences is often faulty, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of comparisons.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple terms like 'graph', 'cases', 'perceived', and 'actual'. There are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form—such as 'firs' instead of first, 'iperceived' instead of perceived, and 'recided' instead of recorded—which reflect a limited range. While the meaning can generally be discerned, the lack of precision and lexical variety restricts the response to a lower band level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, consisting mostly of simple or poorly constructed run-on sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles (e.g., 'in last graph'), poor subject-verb agreement, and incorrect prepositional usage. Punctuation is also problematic, as sentences run together without proper periods or conjunctions. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a weak control of grammatical forms.
