Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, containing only 61 words in total (with 8 words copied directly from the prompt not counted). Furthermore, the task is only partially addressed; the student attempts to introduce the graph but provides very minimal data points and stops abruptly after only three sentences. An overview is attempted, but it is superficial and factually inaccurate, claiming the graph consists of "4 main stages" when it actually compares three crime types across two time periods. Key features and comparisons required by the prompt are largely missing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The writing exhibits basic organizational attempts with transitional phrases such as "Overall," but fails to achieve a clear logical progression. The response is broken into very short, disjointed sentences and lacks proper paragraphing. Referencing is weak and mechanical, and cohesive devices are inadequate to link ideas smoothly across the text. The overall structure breaks down immediately after the introduction, resulting in a text that is not arranged coherently as a cohesive report.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, showing a limited range appropriate for this level. There are noticeable lexical errors, such as "percentagews" (spelling error) and awkward phrasing like "two different victim of crime such as perceived danger and actual likelihood". The student attempts some topic-related vocabulary such as "perceived danger", "actual likelihood", and "Burglary", but word choice and word formation inaccuracies cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent precise reporting of the visual data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying entirely on simple and faulty forms. There are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ("victim of crime", "three different crime"), incorrect prepositions ("At the first"), and faulty subject-verb agreement or incomplete clauses ("and showing perceived and actual likelihood"). These errors occur constantly throughout the short text and frequently impede communication and grammatical clarity.
