Perceived and actual likelihood of being a victim of crime: by crime type
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In this data we are given percentage of different types of crime which were perceived and actually happen in different year interval.
The crime is divided in 3 parts which are burglary, car crime, violent crime.
this data has shown each crime for 2 years time interval 2009 - 2010 and 2010 - 2011. In first crime burglary, perceived is above 15% but actual it is approx 2.5% in first year, in 2nd year the perceived decreased to approx 13% and the actual increased by approx 1%. Now in 2nd crime car crime, in 1st year the perceived % is highest above 20% and actual is 4% approx whereas in the 2nd year it decreased to the perceived is 17% approx and actual is little decreased from 1st year. The 3rd crime is like exsactly same as 1st crime in perceived but in actual it is more in both the year.
On comparing all the crime we get to know perceived is really high as the actual donot even close to it. But the main part is all perceived crime is getting decreased but the actual crime is increasing in burglary and violent crime.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task partially by identifying the main crime types and attempting some comparisons between perceived and actual figures. However, the information is presented in a somewhat disjointed manner, and some details are imprecise or underdeveloped. For instance, the writer states that violent crime is 'exsactly same as 1st crime in perceived' rather than clearly reporting the specific percentages. While an overview is attempted at the end noting that perceived danger greatly outstrips actual likelihood, the lack of thorough comparison and supporting data prevents the response from achieving a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organisation with the response broken into short paragraphs, but there is no clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, or inaccurate, relying heavily on simple transition phrases like 'In first crime' and 'Now in 2nd crime'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'the 1st crime' and 'the 2nd crime', which makes the relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Paragraphing is also inadequate, as the body of the response is crammed into a single block of text rather than being logically structured.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in word choice and phrasing, such as 'actually happen' instead of 'actual likelihood', and persistent spelling mistakes like 'exsactly'. The student attempts to use terms related to the prompt, but the range is narrow and repetitive, often relying on basic descriptions like 'highest above 20%' and 'little decreased'. These lexical limitations cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent precision in reporting the data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response shows a very limited range of sentence structures, consisting mostly of simple and awkwardly joined compound sentences. Attempts at complex structures are often faulty, featuring frequent errors such as missing articles ('in different year interval'), incorrect prepositions ('divided in 3 parts'), and run-on sentences ('Now in 2nd crime car crime...'). These frequent errors in grammar and punctuation can cause difficulty and strain for the reader, though the general meaning remains partially comprehensible.
