Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the chart’s subject and cover all three crime types, and your overview correctly notes that perceived risk is higher than actual victimisation throughout. However, the response is under the required length: it contains 141 words, and 11 words copied from the prompt are excluded from the count. This limits how fully you report the data. Several details are inaccurate or unclear: actual burglary is about 2–2.5%, not “about 3% in both years”; perceived burglary falls from roughly 15.5% to 13%, rather than remaining stable; and perceived violent crime changes from about 15.5% to 13.5%. Include a clearer overview of the general decline in perceived risk and the comparatively small changes in actual rates, then support it with accurate figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph describing individual crime types. You also use signposts such as “Overall,” “Looking in depth,” and “In addition,” which help indicate the stages of your discussion. However, progression within the detail paragraph is difficult to follow because several comparisons are compressed or repeated, especially the final statement that violent crime “followed burglary crime by both years.” Some linking words, including “therefore” and “however,” do not clearly express the relationship between the ideas they connect. Grouping the perceived figures together and then comparing actual figures, or using one concise comparison for each crime type, would make the organisation clearer and cohesion less mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “perceived,” “actual,” “categories,” and “stable,” and you attempt to describe change with phrases such as “faces a dramatically change.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the data difficult to interpret. For example, “actual crime was upgraded” is not an appropriate way to describe a percentage, and “percieved danger” is repeatedly misspelled. “Followed burglary crime” is also unclear as a comparison. Use precise reporting verbs and phrases such as “stood at,” “fell to,” “rose slightly,” and “was considerably higher than.” Check spelling carefully, particularly for key terms that recur throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, and the response is generally recognisable as a comparison of chart data. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence construction and verb forms. For example, “actual crime was remains lower” combines incompatible verb forms, while “percieved reached at 15%” uses an incorrect grammatical pattern. The sentence beginning “Overall, looking at types of crimes” also lacks a clear, well-formed structure, and punctuation around “therefore” is often faulty. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and straightforward comparison structures, such as “Perceived burglary fell from about 15.5% to 13%, while actual burglary rose slightly.” Clearer sentence boundaries will make your meaning easier to follow.
