Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the chart’s central contrast: perceived risk is much higher than actual victimisation, and car crime has the highest perceived figures. You also report several relevant values, such as burglary perception at just over 15% and actual burglary at about 2%. However, coverage is partial and some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear. The chart compares 2009/10 with 2010/11, not simply 2009 with 2010; actual burglary rises slightly, rather than remaining the same, and perceived violent crime falls from about 15.5% to 13.5%. The final sentence is unfinished, so the actual-year comparison and overall summary are incomplete. Give a clear overview of both series and report the main changes accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to perceived figures and then actual figures. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “In 2009” and “In terms of actual case” signal a change of focus. However, progression is not consistently clear: the overview repeats the idea of declining perception, while the final paragraph ends abruptly at “but act,” leaving the comparison unfinished. Some linking expressions, including “Accordingly” and “Hence,” do not clearly show the relationship between the figures. Organise the body around the two years or compare perceived and actual rates within each crime type, and use precise references so each comparison is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “perceived,” “actual likelihood,” “percentage,” and “downtrend,” and the reader can generally identify the topic of each paragraph. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning difficult to interpret. For example, “according to the professions” misrepresents the chart, which is organised by crime type, while “what they thinked about the risk” is not a natural way to describe perceived likelihood. There are also spelling errors such as “belived,” “vic tim,” and “likehood,” alongside the unclear phrase “geniue proportion report.” Use standard chart language such as “crime types,” “perceived risk,” and “actual rate,” and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “whereas” and a relative clause beginning “where people perceived…”. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence construction and verb forms sometimes make the message hard to follow. Examples include “the actual likelihoods … was lower,” “what they thinked,” and “what actually were happened.” The sentence “This perception was declined” also uses an incorrect passive form, and the final sentence is incomplete. Articles, agreement, and tense choices need more reliable control. Practise building clear comparison sentences with accurate past-tense verbs—for example, “Perceived burglary risk fell from about 15.5% to 13%”—and proofread each sentence for a complete subject and verb.
