Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the chart’s subject and make relevant comparisons, including that car crime has the highest perceived and actual figures and that perceived rates are much higher than actual ones. However, the overview is not fully accurate: burglary is not consistently the lowest perceived category, since violent crime is slightly lower in 2010/11. The account of actual figures is incomplete and ends mid-sentence, so the small increases in burglary and violent crime are not clearly reported. The response also contains only 119 words, below the required 150, which limits coverage of the data. To improve, complete the comparison of both years for all categories and provide a concise, accurate overview.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for perceived danger and actual likelihood. Phrases such as “Regarding perceived danger” and “In terms of actual likelihood” help signal the shift between topics. However, progression is weakened by the unfinished final sentence (“it slightly increased around 3% i”), which leaves the last comparison unclear. Some links are also awkward, particularly “Whereas, burglary…” as a standalone sentence, and the overview’s comparison is not developed. Use complete sentences, connect contrasts within sentences where appropriate, and ensure the final paragraph finishes its comparison so the reader can follow the data without interruption.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “perceived danger,” “actual likelihood,” “accounts for,” and “approximately,” which makes the topic clear. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “victime,” “preceived,” “precieved,” and “acounts” recur or appear in key phrases. “Most perceived” is also an unnatural collocation; “highest perceived figure” would be clearer. The repeated use of “around” and “accounts for” makes the description less varied. Check spelling carefully and choose precise terms such as “proportion,” “rate,” and “stood at,” while keeping the wording natural and consistent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some complex structures, for example, “This is followed by burglary and violent crime…,” and use time references to compare the two periods. However, grammatical control is uneven, and the final sentence is incomplete, making its meaning difficult to follow. There are also errors in sentence construction and agreement, such as “Whereas, burglary is acounts for lowest,” and the phrase “both at almost similar percentage” lacks a clear grammatical form. The opening sentence is understandable but could be more accurately structured as a description of what the chart compares. Practise complete, well-formed comparison sentences and check articles, verb forms, and punctuation before finishing.
