Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the broad pattern that perceived risk is higher than actual victimisation and note that car crime has the highest figures, which are relevant overview points. However, the response covers only violent crime and burglary in detail, leaving car crime—the most prominent category—without supporting figures or comparison. Some reported values are also inaccurate: for example, violent-crime actual likelihood is about 3% and 3.5%, not 4% in both years, while burglary is about 2% and 2.5%, not 2% and 3%. The overview’s claim that burglary is the lowest crime is unclear because it does not distinguish perceived from actual figures. The response is also 14 words below the required minimum. Include all three categories and give a concise, accurate overview before the details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response with an overview followed by details, and phrases such as “To begin with” and “On the other hand” signal relationships between points. However, the progression is incomplete: the discussion moves from violent crime to burglary, omits car crime, and then ends abruptly with “This bargraph shoows” rather than completing the report. Connections between comparisons are sometimes unclear, as in “where there are two different actual and perceivved one is in 2009/10 and another is in 2010/11.” Paragraphing is present but does not yet create a complete, logically developed account. Group the information by crime type or by perceived versus actual figures, use clear comparisons, and ensure the final paragraph is complete.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “perceived,” “actual likelihood,” “crime,” and “records,” so the reader can recognise the subject of the chart. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms make the report difficult to follow. “The highest crime which done is car crime” is not a natural way to describe the largest percentage, and “victime of crime feel” does not accurately express perceived risk. Spelling errors such as “voilent,” “begain,” “higest,” and “shoows” are frequent enough to distract. Aim for precise chart language and check spelling carefully; terms such as “percentage,” “risk,” “rose,” and “fell” can help describe the data clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences, including an overview beginning “Overall, it is clear that…”. However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes obscure the intended comparisons. For example, “in every crime Actual likelihood is at lowest and Perceived are at higestin” has problems with articles, agreement, and sentence construction. The sentence “In 10/11 perceivewas at 13 percent and actual was at 4 percent” also lacks a clear grammatical subject and contains inconsistent tense and form. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are not consistently controlled, and the final fragment “This bargraph shoows” is incomplete. Practise accurate simple comparison sentences first, then combine them using clauses such as “whereas” or “while.”
