Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Perceived and actual likelihood of being a victim of crime: by crime type

Perceived and actual likelihood of being a victim of crime: by crime type

Student answer (Band 5.0)

The bar chart illustrate the proportion of actual crime victimisation and its percepted danger in bulgary, car crime and in voilence from 2009 to 2011.

Overall, it can be seen that the danger of crime perception accounted for the highest ratio in all three categories of crime in the given period. While the actual crime was the lowest than all.

In terms of bulagry and car the perceived crime was above to 20%,whereas actual crime percentage was decreased in bulagry and violence in 2009 to 2011.

Futhermore, car crime perception was upto 20% in 2009 to 2010 and it fall down to approximately 17% in 2010/11. However in case of voilence the perception was 15% in 2009/10 and it decreases to 13% in 2010/11.

The ratio of actual car crime was almost 4% but it also fell down in the other two crimes from 2009 to 201

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the chart’s central contrast: perceived risk is higher than actual victimisation in all three crime types, and you note that car crime has the highest perceived figure. However, the report is incomplete and some comparisons are inaccurate. Perceived burglary and violence were around 15.5% and 15.5% in 2009/10, not above 20%; only car crime was about 21%. Actual rates did not decrease across all categories: burglary and violence rose slightly, while car crime stayed roughly level. The final sentence is unfinished, and the response is four words below the required minimum. Include a clear overview and compare both years accurately for each series.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure, with an opening, an overview and further details, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Furthermore” and “However” help signal relationships. Nevertheless, progression is limited: the discussion moves between perceived and actual figures without a consistent comparison pattern, and the final sentence breaks off at “2009 to 201,” leaving the report incomplete. Some links are also unclear, as in “In terms of bulgary and car,” which does not specify whether you mean perceived or actual figures. Organise the details by crime type or by perceived versus actual rates, and use complete sentences with clear references to the years.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “perception,” “percentage” and “approximately,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, form and spelling errors make parts difficult to interpret: “percepted danger,” “bulgary,” “voilence” and “fall down” are not appropriate or accurate expressions here. “The danger of crime perception” is also an awkward way to describe perceived likelihood. Use standard terms such as “perceived risk,” “burglary,” “violent crime” and “fell,” and choose precise verbs such as “rose,” “remained stable” or “declined” to describe the actual trends.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a few complex forms, including the contrast beginning “While” and the clause introduced by “whereas,” but control is inconsistent. The opening has subject–verb disagreement (“The bar chart illustrate”), and several sentences have faulty constructions, such as “the actual crime was the lowest than all” and “the perceived crime was above to 20%.” Tense and agreement are also unreliable in “it fall down” and “it decreases,” while the final sentence is incomplete. These errors sometimes make the intended comparisons hard to follow. Practise accurate simple comparison structures first, then combine them with subordinate clauses; check verb agreement, past-tense forms and sentence completion.
