Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s main contrast: perceived likelihood is much higher than actual likelihood, and car crime is perceived as the most likely category in both periods. You also compare the two years and include several figures. However, some data are inaccurate: burglary and violent crime in 2009/10 are about 15.5%, not 12%, and actual burglary is about 2%, not 3%. The overview is also limited; it would be stronger if it noted that perceived figures fell in 2010/11 while actual figures rose slightly or stayed similar. The response is four words below the required minimum. Add accurate comparisons and a fuller overview to address the task more completely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic, useful structure: an introduction and overview are followed by separate paragraphs for 2009/10 and 2010/11. This makes the time periods easy to identify. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and linking is repetitive, especially through repeated uses of “But” and “Also.” Some references are difficult to follow, such as “the actual crime” and “both violent crime and burglary crime perceived,” because the categories and measures are not expressed clearly. Grouping perceived figures together and actual figures together, or using consistent comparisons within each year, would create a clearer progression. More precise linking and reference would make the organisation easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “perceived,” “actual,” “approximately,” and “followed closely,” so the reader can understand the general topic and comparisons. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “perceived crime rate,” “highest crime by victim,” and “actual crime were relevantly lower.” These expressions make the intended meaning less precise: the chart shows perceived and actual likelihood, not crime rates or crime counts. Spelling errors such as “ilustreates,” “likehood,” and “followe” are also noticeable. Use accurate terms consistently, for example “perceived likelihood” and “actual likelihood,” and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentences and comparisons, for example, “Car crime is perceived as highest crime rate than any other in both year,” but the structures are often faulty. Errors include missing or incorrect articles and plurals (“in both year”), subject–verb agreement (“actual crime were”), and verb forms (“car crime again remain”). Sentence punctuation and spacing are also inconsistent, as in “Overall, perceived” and “actual crime ,all.” Most sentences rely on simple patterns, and errors sometimes make relationships between figures unclear. Practise building accurate comparison sentences with a clear subject and verb, such as “Car crime was perceived as more likely than the other categories,” and proofread agreement, articles, and punctuation.
