The above graph shows the perceived danger and actual likehood of being a victim of crime in 2009/10 and 20010/11.
There are three types of crime - Burglary, car crime, violent crime. the perceived and actual likelihood of being a victim are further divided into four categories - perceived 2009/10, actual 2009/10, perceived 2010/11, actual 2010/11.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s subject and compare perceived with actual risk across all three crime types and both periods. The strongest relevant observations are that car crime has the highest perceived and actual figures, and that perceived risk falls in 2010/11. However, the overview is not sufficiently clear or precise, and some claims are inaccurate: actual violent-crime risk rises slightly from about 3% to 3.5%, rather than remaining the same, while actual burglary rises only slightly. The statement that crime “has reduced in all the types” overgeneralises because actual figures increase for burglary and violent crime. Select the main overall patterns, then report accurate comparisons using the chart’s approximate values.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, a description of the earlier period, and a paragraph about 2010/11. This gives the reader some organisation, and the crime categories provide a clear framework. However, progression is weakened by repeated points, especially the final sentence, which restates that perceived figures fell and actual figures changed little without adding detail. Some links are awkward or unclear, such as “The first two bars in all the types” and “The both percentages of car crime.” Grouping the key overview separately and then comparing each period more systematically would make the information easier to follow. Use linking phrases selectively and ensure each sentence advances the comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “perceived,” “actual,” “percentage,” and “highest,” so the reader can understand the topic and basic comparisons. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, such as “percentage of being a victim” and “the crime has reduced.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “likehood,” “pecentage,” and “ehich,” which reduce accuracy. Some expressions are not natural for describing data, for example “the perceived are 15%.” Build a more precise set of terms for trends and proportions, and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer comparisons, but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and sentence construction appear in examples such as “the perceived are 15%,” “actual percentage have comparetively increased,” and “the actual percentage of victim are still the same.” Several sentences also lack clear grammatical links, as in “The perceived percentage of car crime are more than 20%.” Punctuation and capitalisation are uneven, including a lowercase “the” after a full stop and crowded spacing around punctuation. Use a reliable sentence pattern for each comparison—for example, subject + rose/fell/remained + figure—and check singular/plural agreement and verb forms.
