Student answer (Band 5.5)
The bar chart illustrates, change of the fancied and real probability of spesific kinds of crimes to happen which are theft, crimes commited by cars and crimes involve violence in 2009/2010 and 2010/11. Overall, individuals overestimated the possiblity of criminal activity to occur, but this trend showed a slight decrease in a year.
It was assumed that there was a 15% chance of a persons belonging to get stole in 2009/2010. However in reality less than 5% of the people experienced that. Following year that belief got decreased by almos 3%, but this crime happend more in that year. Among these three crimes, traffic crimes were the most expected category win more than 20% people and corresponding to that it occured the most. And this category also followed the downwards trend of expectation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s central message: perceived risk was much higher than actual victimisation, and perceived figures generally fell in 2010/11. You also note that car crime was the most feared category. However, the account is incomplete and some comparisons are unclear. The chart includes all three crime types across both years, but violent crime is not discussed, and the actual figures are only described broadly. The claim that car crime “occured the most” needs clarification: it had the highest actual rate, but this was about 4.5%, far below the perceived rate. The response is also 17 words below the required minimum. Include a concise overview and report the key figures for each category and year to make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic overall shape: an opening description and overview are followed by details about burglary and car crime. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “However,” and “Following year” help signal relationships between ideas. However, the progression is limited because the information is not organised into a clear comparison of the three crime types across both years, and violent crime is omitted. Some references are difficult to follow, particularly “that belief” and “this category,” while the long final sentence combines several points without clearly separating perceived and actual rates. Use a more systematic order—overview, then comparisons by crime type or by year—and make each comparison explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt relevant chart vocabulary, including “probability,” “overestimated,” “decrease,” and “downwards trend,” so the reader can generally understand the topic. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning difficult to interpret. “Fancied” is not appropriate for perceived risk, and “a persons belonging to get stole” does not clearly express the chance of being burgled. “Crimes commited by cars” and “traffic crimes” are also imprecise labels for car crime. Spelling errors such as “possiblity,” “almos,” and “happend” further reduce accuracy. Prefer standard chart language and the crime categories shown in the task, and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “However” and a time reference beginning “Following year.” The main message is usually recoverable, but grammatical control is uneven. For example, “there was a 15% chance of a persons belonging to get stole” has problems with the article, possessive form, and passive construction; “Following year that belief got decreased” also has an incorrect verb pattern. In “Among these three crimes, traffic crimes were the most expected category win more than 20% people,” the clause structure and comparison are difficult to follow. Practise accurate passive forms and comparative sentences, and use shorter sentences when reporting several figures.
