Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies the chart’s general subject and gives one relevant overview: perceived likelihood is higher than actual likelihood across the crime types. However, it does not summarise the main features in enough detail: there are no crime categories, figures, comparisons between the two years, or notable patterns such as car crime being highest. The overview also says “all three year,” although the chart compares two years and three crime types. At 43 words, the response is substantially below the required 150 words, leaving the task only minimally addressed. To improve, write a clear overview and support it with accurate comparisons and selected figures for each period.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence introduces the chart, followed by an overview signalled by “Overall.” This gives the very short text a simple sequence. However, the response ends before it develops or groups the chart information, so there is no progression from an overview to supporting comparisons. The comma and spacing in “Overall , In” also interrupt the flow, and the overview sentence is difficult to follow because its phrasing is unclear. Use separate paragraphs for the introduction, overview and key comparisons, and connect related figures with clear language such as “whereas” or “by contrast.”
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses a small set of relevant terms, including “perceived,” “actual likelihood,” and “victim of crime,” so the topic is recognisable. However, the vocabulary range is very limited and some choices or forms are inaccurate: “graph chart” is redundant, “actul” is misspelled, and “perceived the victim of crime number” does not express the intended idea naturally. Repeating “victim of crime” also limits precision. Use chart-specific language and accurate collocations, for example “the bar chart compares perceived and actual risks” and “the proportion of people who feared becoming victims.” Check spelling and avoid combining near-synonyms such as “graph chart.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts two simple sentences, and the basic relationship between perceived and actual likelihood can be understood. However, grammatical control is limited, with errors in sentence construction and articles. In “Overall, In all three year perceived the victim of crime number is higher,” the subject and verb structure are unclear, and “all three year” does not form a grammatical phrase. The opening also needs a more complete construction, such as “The chart shows…” The response contains no varied sentence patterns or developed comparisons, so it provides little evidence of range. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add comparisons using structures such as “while” and “whereas.”
