Perceived and actual likelihood of being a victim of crime: by crime type
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The graph illustrates the information regarding the danger perceived and actual liklihood of being a victim of illegal actions.
Overall, it is clear that the car crime had recorded the major proportion while Burglary shows less proprtion in actual figure in 2009/10.
In the contrast, in car crime Danger perceived percengtage recorded 21% and 17% in the year 2009/10 as well as 2010/11. As per actual liklihood showed approximately same figure that was 4% in the mentioned years.
On the other hand, danger perceived in violent illegal actions in 2009/10 record 15% and 13% in 2020/11 While, Actual liklihood accounted same ratio of proportion which was 3% in 2009 to 2011.
To compare with, As per Burglary, approx 15% figure recorded in 2009/10 and 13% in 2010/11 Whereas, actual figure showed 2% in 2009/10 and 3% in 2010/11.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the three crime types and make relevant comparisons between perceived and actual risk, including the much higher perceived figures and the lower actual figures. However, the overview is incomplete: it notes car crime as highest but does not clearly summarise the broad pattern that perceived risk exceeded actual likelihood in every category and year. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: the violent-crime figures are given as 15% and 13%, rather than approximately 15.5% and 13.5%, and the actual figures are described as unchanged at 3%, although they rise slightly. The reference to 2020/11 is also incorrect. The response is 138 words, below the required 150, and several comparisons are underdeveloped. Add a fuller overview and report the key changes accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic, recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate discussion of car crime, violent crime and burglary. This helps the reader follow the categories being compared. However, progression is limited, and the linking phrases are sometimes mechanical or awkward. For example, “In the contrast,” “On the other hand,” and “To compare with” do not consistently express the relationships between the data. The overview also focuses narrowly on car crime and burglary rather than preparing the reader for the main comparisons that follow. Grouping the figures by perceived versus actual likelihood, or using clearer transitions to compare years, would create a more logical progression. Keep each paragraph focused on one comparison and use linking expressions only where their meaning is precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “perceived,” “actual likelihood,” “percentage,” and “proportion,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are unnatural or repetitive, such as “danger perceived percentage recorded” and “same ratio of proportion.” These phrases make the data harder to interpret than necessary; standard chart language such as “the perceived risk was” or “the actual rate stood at” would be clearer. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “liklihood,” “proprtion,” and “percengtage,” as well as imprecise wording such as “illegal actions” for crime types. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and use a small set of precise terms consistently rather than repeating awkward alternatives.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including comparisons across years, and the reader can usually identify the intended meaning. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence construction, articles, agreement and punctuation occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. For example, “Overall, it is clear that the car crime had recorded the major proportion” has an awkward tense and article use, while “danger perceived in violent illegal actions in 2009/10 record 15%” lacks a correctly formed verb phrase. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly around “Whereas” and “While.” Practise building clear subject–verb sentences, such as “The perceived figure for violent crime was approximately 15%,” and check tense and punctuation before submitting.
