Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the chart’s subject and make a relevant broad comparison: perceived risk is higher than actual victimisation, and car crime has the highest figures. However, the overview is unclear, and several details are inaccurate or too vague. For example, perceived car crime is about 21% in 2009/10, not 22%, while the actual figures are around 4.5% in both years; “near by less then 5%” does not clearly explain this. Burglary and violent crime are also not simply the “lowest” without specifying whether you mean perceived or actual rates. The response is 142 words, below the required 150. Include a clear overview and accurately compare both series across the two years.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has separate paragraphs and attempts to guide the reader with “Overall,” “However,” and “Meanwhile.” It also moves from car crime to the other categories, giving the answer some basic organisation. However, the progression is not consistently clear: the overview is difficult to interpret, and the final paragraph introduces violent crime without reporting its figures or connecting it clearly to the earlier comparisons. Several linking phrases, such as “As,” and “However,” do not express the relationship between ideas accurately. Grouping the information into an overview followed by clear comparisons of perceived and actual rates would make the organisation easier to follow. Use fewer, more precise transitions and ensure each paragraph develops one comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “perceived,” “actual likelihood,” “compared,” and “range,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the vocabulary is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning difficult to understand. Phrases such as “three type of crime,” “car crime cases are increased,” and “present crime” are not natural or precise descriptions of the data. There are also spelling errors, including “lowerest,” “approxmate,” and “voillent.” Aim for accurate terms such as “crime types,” “was highest,” “actual rate,” and “approximately.” Repeating “crime cases” does not distinguish between perceived risk and actual victimisation, so vary the wording while keeping the categories precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt longer sentences to compare categories and years, but control is weak and errors frequently obscure the intended meaning. For example, “The graph illustrates the perceived danger and actual likelihood of being a three type of crime” has problems with the article, plural form, and sentence construction. In “car crime cases are in mostly Perceived is highest range,” the word order and verb structure are difficult to follow. Capitalisation after commas is also inconsistent, as in “Overall, We” and “However, In.” Most sentences rely on similar, extended patterns rather than controlled variation. Practise writing short, complete comparisons first, then combine them with accurate clauses—for example, “Perceived risk of car crime was highest in 2009/10, at about 21%.”
