Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s subject and give an overview that car crime has the highest perceived likelihood, while actual burglary is among the lowest. You also report several relevant comparisons, including the fall in perceived car crime from about 22% to 17% and the near-stability of its actual figure. However, coverage is partial and some details are inaccurate or unclear: actual burglary in 2009/10 is described as 2.5%, whereas the chart shows about 2%; and actual violent crime rises from roughly 3% to 3.5%, not remaining the same. The overview’s claim that perceived figures “fluctuated” is imprecise; they all declined. Select the main trends accurately and compare perceived with actual levels across the categories.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic overall shape: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs of supporting comparisons. Linking expressions such as “overall,” “moreover,” and “in contrast” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, progression is not consistently clear. The final paragraph moves between burglary and violent crime, and phrases such as “as well as” and “last but not the least” do not clearly signal the relationships between the figures. Some references are also difficult to follow, particularly “it was also same for the actual.” Group the information more systematically—for example, compare perceived figures across all three crimes, then actual figures—and use concise links that accurately express contrast or similarity.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “perceived,” “actual,” “figure,” and “decreased,” so the reader can recognise the topic and several comparisons. However, the range and control are limited, with repeated or awkward combinations such as “perceived crime of car,” “actual recording,” and “the perceived of all crimes.” Spelling errors, including “victime,” “voilent,” “begining,” and “percieved,” are noticeable and reduce the accuracy of the report. Aim for standard collocations used to describe data, such as “the perceived likelihood of car crime” and “the actual rate.” More precise verbs and nouns will help you report trends without relying on vague wording such as “high” or “quite high.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including comparisons joined with “while” and “but.” However, control is inconsistent, and several sentence patterns are faulty or incomplete. For example, “the car crime perceived in 2009/10 was high which was 22% and considered in 2010/11 decreased” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “the burglary and violent crime was same” has agreement and article problems. Tense and sentence construction also make the final comparison difficult to understand. Use a reliable pattern such as “The perceived figure for car crime fell from about 22% to 17%, while the actual rate remained at around 4.5%.” Check subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation when combining clauses.
