Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the chart’s topic and make a relevant broad comparison by noting that car crime has the highest perceived figures. However, the response reports several key details inaccurately or unclearly: perceived car crime falls from about 21% to 17%, rather than being approximately 22% in 2010/11, and the actual figures are around 2–4.5%, not 9%. The claim that burglary and violent crime remain at 16% also misses their declines in perceived likelihood. The overview is difficult to interpret, and the main features are not selected and compared clearly. The response is 140 words, below the required 150. To improve, give a concise overview and accurately compare perceived with actual likelihood across both years.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is an attempt to begin with an introduction and an overview, followed by discussion of the crime categories, so the response has a basic sense of task order. However, the ideas are not arranged coherently enough for the reader to follow the comparisons. The long third paragraph moves between perceived and actual figures, years, and crime types without clear transitions; phrases such as “lastly the actual victime has decrease so badly” do not make the intended comparison clear. There is also no effective paragraphing beyond the opening lines. Organise the response into an overview and two focused comparison paragraphs, and use clear links such as “by contrast” and “in the following year” to show how each figure relates.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “perceived,” “actual likelihood,” “percentage,” and “decrease,” which helps identify the subject. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and several word choices or forms make the meaning difficult to understand. For example, “the most increasing crime at perceived” is not a natural way to describe the highest perceived figure, while “level up” and “victime” are unsuitable or inaccurate. Spelling errors such as “higest,” “approxmatelly,” and “simillarty” also reduce clarity. Build a more precise set of terms for describing chart data, such as “was highest,” “declined,” “remained stable,” and “actual incidence,” and check spelling and collocations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to form longer sentences and use comparison and time expressions, but grammatical control is weak and errors frequently obscure relationships between the data. For instance, “Car crime is the higest percentages” has faulty agreement, and “other 2 crime has been levelo up” has problems with number and verb form. The sentence beginning “The most increasing crime at perceived” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while the final sentence joins several ideas without reliable punctuation or clause control. Most sentences are not consistently accurate, and the response relies on extended, loosely connected constructions. Use shorter sentences with a clear subject and verb, check singular/plural agreement and tense, and separate each comparison with full stops.
