Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the chart and table and give a broad overview that petroleum, engineered goods, textiles and agricultural products rose while gems and jewellery fell. However, the overview’s claim that the percentage changes follow the same pattern is unclear and does not accurately reflect the table: agricultural products rose only 0.81%, while textiles had the largest increase at 15.24%. Several figures are substantially misread: for example, agricultural exports were about $31 billion, not $42 billion, and textiles were about $26 billion in 2015, not “324 billion.” The response also stops before reporting the 2016 values or making useful comparisons across both years. It addresses the task only minimally, and it is 42 words below the required minimum. Include a complete account of the main changes and accurate comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph with figures. The opening also makes the subject and time period clear. However, the response has no clear progression through the data: it lists some 2015 figures but does not move on to compare them with 2016 or organise categories into meaningful groups. The sentence beginning “Similarly” does not clearly explain how the percentage changes relate to the trends, and the final paragraph ends abruptly. Some linking is attempted, but the relationship between ideas is not always clear. Use separate, developed paragraphs for the overview and key comparisons, and connect each figure to the relevant change.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “export income,” “categories,” “percentage change,” and “experienced a slight decrease.” These choices show an attempt to describe trends rather than simply name the chart. However, several expressions are inaccurate or awkward, such as “income on the export of,” “inconsiderable increase,” and “produced from the export.” “Engine” is also an unclear shortening of “engineered goods,” while “324 billion” makes the textile figure difficult to interpret. Spelling and spacing are inconsistent in places, including “engin” and “the the.” Aim for precise chart language and check that category names and numerical expressions are written clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response includes both simple statements and a more complex overview sentence, using “whereas” to contrast rising categories with falling gems and jewellery. However, the range is limited, and errors recur in sentence construction and punctuation. For example, “the percentage change in values of these products follow” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “In 2015, around 65$ billion produced” is missing a clear subject and uses an incomplete passive construction. The opening phrase “between 2015 and 2016” is understandable, but spacing around commas and full stops is inconsistent, and the final sentence lacks closing punctuation. Practise complete comparison sentences with accurate subjects, verbs, and punctuation.
