Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the data, such as identifying the highest and lowest export categories and noting the general trend of growth. However, the report lacks a clear overview or summary of the data, which is a requirement for Task 1. The information is presented as a list of individual data points rather than a cohesive summary. While the key figures are included, the lack of a proper introduction and a distinct overview paragraph limits the score. To improve, ensure you provide a clear summary statement after the introduction that highlights the most significant trends across the two years.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organised into three short paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The second paragraph is essentially a list of sentences starting with the names of the categories, which makes the writing feel repetitive and mechanical. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas; for example, the transition between the introduction and the body is abrupt. The final paragraph is very brief and does not effectively synthesise the information. Using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', 'Consequently') would help improve the flow and logical connection between the sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are some spelling errors, such as 'jewelries' (jewelry/jewellery) and 'gems an jewelries'. The phrasing is often repetitive, with the structure 'are increased by' used in almost every sentence. To achieve a higher band, you should use a wider range of synonyms and more sophisticated collocations to describe data trends, such as 'experienced a growth of', 'witnessed a decline', or 'remained the dominant category'. The current range is sufficient to convey the basic meaning but does not demonstrate flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'Petroleum products are exported in highest' (should be 'the highest') and 'Textiles are least export category' (should be 'the least'). The use of passive voice is inconsistent, and there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of complex sentence structures and the frequency of minor grammatical errors prevent a higher score. Incorporating more complex sentence forms, such as relative clauses or subordinate clauses, would demonstrate better control.
