Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers the main features of the data, including the export values and percentage changes. However, the report lacks a clear overview or summary paragraph that highlights the most significant trends, such as which categories grew the most or least overall. While you have selected relevant data points, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, listing figures rather than synthesizing them into a cohesive comparison. To reach a higher band, ensure you provide a clear 'overview' sentence after the introduction that summarizes the general trend across all categories, and ensure all data points are clearly linked to the specific years provided in the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition between paragraphs could be smoother; phrases like 'Whereas in the gems and jewellery category' are used, but the overall flow between sentences feels a bit disjointed. The final sentence acts as a brief conclusion, but it is not fully integrated into the preceding analysis. Improving the use of linking words such as 'consequently', 'in contrast', or 'furthermore' would help create a more professional and logical progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have used a range of vocabulary appropriate for the task, such as 'summarises', 'depicted', 'significant hike', and 'export earnings'. However, there are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'the most movement of exports was observed', which sounds slightly unnatural. Additionally, the phrasing 'data of change' could be improved to 'data regarding the change'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a marginal increase', rather than relying on general terms like 'change' or 'hike'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are some grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'the approximate income from both the category was' (should be 'categories were') and 'between the time period' (should be 'during the period'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are some inconsistencies in spacing around percentages and commas. To achieve a higher band, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and refining the use of prepositions. The majority of your sentences are understandable, but more variety in complex sentence structures would enhance your score.
