Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the task by identifying the main features and providing comparisons. However, the overview is somewhat weak and lacks a clear summary of the overall trends. While the data is presented, the analysis is occasionally hindered by inaccurate reporting of the figures (e.g., stating petroleum was 60% in 2015 when the chart shows a different value). The response covers all categories but lacks the depth required for a higher band, as the comparisons are somewhat mechanical and the interpretation of the percentage change is not fully integrated into the narrative. To improve, ensure that data points are transcribed accurately and that the overview highlights the most significant trends rather than just listing categories.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or awkward, such as 'Getting into further detail' and 'To begin with'. There are also issues with referencing; for example, 'the former figure' and 'latter one' are used, but the sentence structure makes the reference slightly confusing. The progression of ideas is present but feels disjointed due to the repetitive sentence starters and limited variety in linking words. Improving the flow between sentences and using a wider range of cohesive devices would significantly enhance the coherence of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'expert' instead of 'exports', 'engine good' instead of 'engineered goods', and 'depict incline' instead of 'showed an increase'. These errors, while not completely impeding communication, demonstrate a limited range of vocabulary. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise terminology related to data description (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'experienced a marginal increase') and avoid repeating the same basic verbs. Expanding your range of collocations will help you express trends more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('both figure was increased'), incorrect tense usage, and missing articles ('in 2015, top seat was notched'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces missing before commas and periods. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors is noticeable and impacts the overall fluency of the writing. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that articles are used correctly before nouns.
