Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the data, including the highest and lowest export categories and the trends between 2015 and 2016. However, the reporting of figures is inconsistent and contains inaccuracies. For instance, the text states that gems and jewellery, agricultural, and textiles products all accounted for 50, 42, and 42 billion respectively in 2016, which is confusingly presented. The overview is present but lacks clarity due to grammatical errors. While the main trends are identified, the lack of precision in data reporting and the somewhat mechanical approach to listing figures prevent a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into four paragraphs, which is appropriate for this task. There is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Overcell' (Overall), 'furthermore', and 'In addition'. However, the flow is often disrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the logical progression between sentences is occasionally hindered by the disjointed presentation of the data. Paragraphing is used, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be more cohesive to better link the data points.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several spelling errors, such as 'Divisons' (divisions), 'illustrute' (illustrate), 'Overcell' (Overall), and 'jewelly' (jewellery). The student relies on basic terminology and struggles with collocations related to data reporting, such as 'proportion fluctuation' instead of 'percentage change'. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the frequent errors in word choice and spelling indicate a limited control over the vocabulary required for an academic task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but these are frequently marred by grammatical errors. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Textiles products is the lowest', 'petroleum products was accounted for') and incorrect verb tenses. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of semicolons and commas. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to cause difficulty for the reader and demonstrate a lack of control over complex sentence forms.
