Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task. You have identified the main features, such as the highest earners (petroleum and engineered goods) and the contrasting trends (growth versus the decline in gems and jewellery). The data is accurately reported, and you have made relevant comparisons between the two years. The overview is clear and provides a good summary of the trends. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are fully integrated into the narrative flow rather than just listing figures, and maintain a consistent focus on the most significant changes across all categories.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Likewise', 'In contrast', and 'Meanwhile' to link ideas effectively. The progression of information is logical, moving from the main earners to specific category trends. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different aspects of the data. To improve, ensure that referencing is always precise; for example, in the third paragraph, 'these figure' should be 'this figure' to maintain grammatical agreement and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. Phrases like 'export earners', 'experienced growth', and 'modest to significant growth' are appropriate for this task. There are some minor errors, such as 'percentages change' (should be 'percentage change') and '15.24%increased' (a spacing and morphological error). While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more varied synonyms for 'increase' or 'decrease'—such as 'surged', 'dipped', or 'remained stable'—would enhance the sophistication of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is generally effective. However, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'one country exports' (should be 'one country's exports'), 'these figure' (should be 'this figure'), and 'which corresponding to' (should be 'which corresponds to'). Punctuation is occasionally inconsistent, particularly with spacing around numbers and percentages. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for minor morphological errors will help improve your accuracy.
