Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the task. While you identified the main trend (that most categories increased except for gems and jewellery), the report lacks specific data points from the table. You mention 'higher' or 'lower' without providing the actual figures or percentages, which is essential for an Academic Task 1 response. To improve, you must include specific numerical data to support your descriptions and ensure the response is long enough to cover all categories comprehensively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into very short, fragmented paragraphs. The logical progression is hindered by the lack of cohesive devices; sentences are often linked in a repetitive manner (e.g., 'In 2015... In 2015...'). There is no clear transition between the introduction, the body, and the conclusion. To improve, use linking words such as 'furthermore', 'conversely', or 'in contrast' to connect ideas and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, such as grouping categories that increased versus those that decreased.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'things', 'numbers', and 'high'/'higher'. There is little attempt to use precise terminology related to data reporting, such as 'fluctuated', 'experienced a growth of', or 'declined'. Furthermore, there are errors in word choice, such as 'gets the highest marks', which is inappropriate for describing economic data. Expanding your range of descriptive verbs and adjectives related to trends will help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the value of exports... during the two years' (missing a verb), 'less then' (should be 'less than'), and 'the number are very higher' (incorrect comparative structure). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of comparative adjectives (e.g., 'higher than' instead of 'higher then').
