Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying main features and making comparisons. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, analytical overview. While the main trends are identified, the reporting of data is occasionally inaccurate (e.g., stating Gems and jewellery dropped in both years when the table shows a percentage change). The overview is present but could be more effectively synthesised to highlight the most significant trends rather than just listing categories. To improve, ensure that the data reported matches the visual information provided and focus on grouping information logically to provide a more cohesive summary of the trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical and sometimes misused, such as starting sentences with 'While,' or 'Where as,' which creates fragments. The transition between the bar chart data and the table data is clear, but the flow within paragraphs is occasionally disrupted by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'top-notch' to describe a percentage increase and 'climg' (a spelling error). The range of vocabulary is limited, relying heavily on basic descriptors like 'highest' and 'lowest'. To improve, incorporate more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'significant growth,' 'marginal decline,' or 'remained relatively stable.' Additionally, ensure that collocations are accurate to avoid unnatural phrasing, such as 'Textiles were least exports,' which should be 'Textiles were the lowest category of exports.'
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include incorrect subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Agricultural products was remains stable'), misuse of articles, and sentence fragments (e.g., 'Compared to, Gems and jewellery were declined'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
