Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the main features of the data, but the presentation is significantly hindered by inaccurate data reporting. For example, the student claims petroleum products represent 70-75% of exports, which is not supported by the provided data. Furthermore, the description of the percentage changes is confusing and lacks clarity. While the response identifies the categories and attempts to compare them, the lack of precision in interpreting the figures means the task is only partially addressed. To improve, ensure that the data points cited accurately reflect the source material and focus on highlighting the most significant trends rather than listing every figure.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, which helps with the overall structure. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed, and the use of cohesive devices is mechanical or misused. For instance, the phrase 'While, table compares' is grammatically incorrect and does not effectively link the introduction to the body. Referencing is often unclear, and the transition between the description of the bar chart and the table is abrupt. The logical flow is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of the data sets.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'product various category', 'remind ones', and 'second most propagation'. These errors sometimes impede communication, as the reader must guess the intended meaning. The student relies on basic terminology and struggles to use academic vocabulary appropriately to describe trends or data. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on learning specific collocations for describing charts, such as 'a significant increase' or 'a marginal decline', and ensure correct word forms are used.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('Petroleum products are rises'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or poorly constructed, such as 'And very less category product are Agriculture and Textiles are 40% to 43%'. The range of structures is limited, and the attempt to use complex sentences often results in errors that obscure the meaning. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and periods. More attention to basic sentence construction and proofreading for grammatical accuracy is required.
