Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response successfully identifies the main features and provides a clear overview of the data. You have highlighted the key trends, such as the dominance of Petroleum and Engineered goods, and noted the growth in Textiles. However, the report contains some inaccuracies in data interpretation. For instance, you state Petroleum remained constant, yet the table shows a 3% increase. Additionally, the description of 'Gems and jewellery' as 'moderate' is subjective; it is better to describe them based on their rank or value. While you have covered all parts of the task, the precision of your data reporting needs improvement to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Than', 'Although', and 'In contrast' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or misused, such as 'Than' (should be 'Then') and the awkward phrasing 'Following Textiles as it sharply surges'. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the general overview to specific data points. To improve, ensure that cohesive devices are used more naturally and that referencing between sentences is more precise.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'export earnings', 'profit generator', and 'plateaued'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'in crease' (should be one word), 'surges to an increase', and 'decline rate'. The phrase 'are accounted for' is grammatically incorrect in this context. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score. Focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding unnecessary word splitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'The following bar chart illustrated' (should be 'illustrates'), 'are accounted for' (should be 'account for'), and 'it decreases' (should be 'it decreased'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before parentheses and periods. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. You should focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage when describing data.
