Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing the main features of the export data. You have successfully identified the highest and lowest values and included the percentage changes. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, listing figures rather than synthesizing them into a cohesive narrative. For example, the statement 'Agricultural products and Textiles have the similar value' is slightly inaccurate based on the provided data. To reach a higher band, focus on grouping data more effectively and ensuring that the comparisons made are precise. The overview is present but could be more analytical by highlighting the most significant trends rather than just stating the highest values.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Looking first at' and 'In contrast', to transition between ideas. However, the progression of ideas within paragraphs is sometimes repetitive, and the use of cohesive devices can feel a bit mechanical. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the connection between the percentage changes and the specific years could be more explicitly stated. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'category', 'percentage change', and 'export'. However, there are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'bi ions' (billions) and 'jwellery' (jewellery). These errors are noticeable and detract from the professional tone required for an Academic Task 1 response. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology and ensuring accurate spelling of key terms. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, the repetition of 'value' and 'bi ions' limits the sophistication of your lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('Petroleum products... shows', 'Agricultural products and Textiles has') and incorrect preposition usage. Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure is sometimes awkward, which occasionally impedes the flow. To achieve a higher band, you should focus on correcting basic subject-verb agreement errors and varying your sentence structures to include more complex, error-free clauses. The consistent misuse of 'bi ions' also suggests a need for more careful proofreading.
