Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the task by summarizing the provided data, but it fails to accurately report the main features. There are significant factual errors in the interpretation of the data, such as stating that Petroleum Products peaked at 65 billion in 2016 when the data shows a different trend, and referencing a year '2025' which is not present in the prompt. The overview is confusing and lacks a clear summary of the key trends. The information is often presented in a disjointed manner, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between 2015 and 2016. The response lacks the precision required for a high band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or incorrect, such as the misuse of 'Overell' (Overall) and 'Convesely' (Conversely). Referencing is frequently unclear, and the transition between sentences is often abrupt or illogical. The paragraphing is present but does not effectively group related information, leading to a disjointed reading experience. The overall structure lacks the flow necessary to guide the reader through the data comparisons effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and contains frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'delineats', 'eepidly', 'remeining', and 'widly'. These errors, combined with the misuse of technical terms like 'export Eearnings', impede the clarity of the report. The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe the trends in the data, relying on repetitive or inaccurate phrasing. There is little evidence of an attempt to use less common lexical items accurately, and the frequent spelling mistakes make the text difficult to read at times.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Petroleum Products export Eearnings is significant rose'), incorrect verb tenses, and fragmented sentences. Complex structures are attempted but are almost always faulty, leading to a lack of clarity. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with misplaced commas and capitalization errors. While the meaning can sometimes be inferred, the high density of errors throughout the text significantly hinders communication and demonstrates a lack of control over basic sentence structures.
