Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you have identified some main features, such as the percentage changes for petroleum and textiles, the report is underdeveloped. You have not provided a clear overview of the data trends, and the description of the figures is somewhat superficial. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive summary that highlights the most significant differences and trends across all categories, rather than just listing a few isolated points. The lack of sufficient detail and the failure to reach the word count limit prevent this from reaching a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into three short paragraphs, which is a basic structure. However, the progression of ideas is limited. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'the bar graphs' and 'from 2015 to 2016'. There is a lack of variety in linking words, which makes the flow of the text feel somewhat disjointed. To improve, try to use a wider range of cohesive devices (e.g., 'in contrast', 'furthermore', 'consequently') to connect your sentences and ideas more naturally, and ensure each paragraph has a clear, distinct focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'increase' and 'decrease' without variation. There are also some awkward phrasing choices, such as 'export earning of petroleum was increases' and 'the export of gems and jewellery by decrease'. These errors in word form and collocation indicate a limited range of vocabulary. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to use more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'experienced a growth of', or 'witnessed a decline'. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you describe the data more accurately and fluently.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'The bar graphs shows' (subject-verb agreement), 'export earning was increases' (incorrect verb form), and 'the export of textiles by increase' (incorrect preposition/structure). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice for describing data. Additionally, try to incorporate more complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions, to demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
