Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the data, identifying the trends for all categories. However, the overview is somewhat repetitive and lacks a clear, concise summary of the most significant trends. While the student correctly identifies the increase in most categories and the decrease in gems and jewellery, the reporting of data is occasionally imprecise. The task is addressed, but the development of ideas is limited by the repetitive structure and the lack of a more analytical approach to comparing the categories. To improve, focus on grouping data more logically and avoiding the repetition of the same information in the overview and the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is hindered by repetitive phrasing and a lack of varied cohesive devices. The use of linking words is mechanical (e.g., 'Turning into a detail', 'However', 'And'). Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the paragraphing is not used to its full potential to separate the overview from the detailed analysis. The flow between sentences is often disjointed, making the text feel like a list of observations rather than a cohesive report. Improving the use of transition signals and avoiding repetitive sentence starters would significantly enhance the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. The student relies heavily on basic verbs like 'increased' and 'decreased' throughout the text. There are also spelling errors such as 'petrollium' and 'Texitile', as well as minor grammatical errors in word form (e.g., 'agricultural producta'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning of the data, it lacks the precision and variety expected for a higher band score. To improve, the student should incorporate a wider range of synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' and ensure accurate spelling of key terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The given bar graph illustrate'), incorrect use of articles, and fragmented sentences ('Which makes it the second least increased product'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with periods often placed incorrectly before conjunctions. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. Focusing on sentence boundary control and basic subject-verb agreement would lead to immediate improvement.
